With over 30 years experience, Jon & Tracy Tanis know what it truly takes to pioneer! In 1984 a red-headed beauty married a wild cowboy mountain guide. Together they began their life journey in the back country of interior British Columbia, Canada, know as 'The Chilcotin'.

The first few years of their adventurous life were spent in rustic wall tent camps working for various wilderness lodges as a mountain guide and camp cook. Eventually as they started a family, it became apparent that a more permanent home was needed! With gratitude, acceptance and hospitality of the Xeni Gwetin First Nations People, they settled in the community of Nemiah Valley.

They then began the arduous process of building their first house. With two daughters under two and a wall tent on the property, they cleared the land using human and horse power alone and with the tenacity and help from many dear friends. Nearby trees were harvested and pulled by horse to the cabin location. Finally the modest one room cabin was built, beside a rushing glacier creek surrounded by beautiful mountains. Even with no running water, plumbing or electricity, this cabin was luxury!

Now with over 30 years of love poured into this piece of heaven, the original cabin has been transformed into a stunning double level log home and bed and breakfast lodge. You can still see the windows and log walls of the original cabin!

Although the house has changed, the atmosphere of warmth and hospitality are still thriving. This is a place where stories are swapped over steaming mugs of homemade cappuccinos. Where the dinner bell is a welcome sound to returning riders and the serenade of the mountain creek coaxes you softly to sleep. One cannot escape the intimate and rugged grandeur of the mountains speaking life right into your soul.

Though the house has changed, the atmosphere of warmth and hospitality are still thriving!

“Wonderful place. Wonderful people. I just returned from 5 days staying at Snowy Mountain Outfit. It was a lovely comfortable BnB. Stunning 360 degree views. The food was terrific. Tracy and Jon and everyone made us feel like family. Campfire evenings with live music was a delightful unexpected extra at no charge! "
